Diabetic Foot Ulcers
Diabetic foot ulcers are open sores or wounds that occur in people with diabetes. They're commonly located on the bottom of the foot and can become infected if untreated.

Symptoms:
Open sores that heal slowly; Drainage from the foot; Pain (unless neuropathy is present); Discoloration; Swelling or redness around the wound
Causes:
Diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage); Poor circulation; Foot deformities; High blood sugar levels; Irritation from footwear; Trauma to the foot
Treatments:
Wound care and dressings; Diabetes management; Offloading pressure from the area with podiatrist-prescribed orthotics; Custom diabetic footwear; Antibiotics for infection; Hyperbaric oxygen therapy; Surgery (in severe cases)
