Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes.

Plantar Fasciitis

Symptoms:

Sharp pain in the bottom of the foot near the heel; Pain that is worst with the first few steps after awakening; Pain after standing or sitting for long periods; Pain that increases after exercise (not during).

Causes:

Repetitive strain on the plantar fascia; High arches or flat feet; Excessive pronation (foot rolling inward); Tight Achilles tendons or calf muscles; Being overweight; Wearing shoes with poor arch support.

Treatments:

Custom orthotic devices; Physical therapy and stretching exercises; Night splints; Rest and ice; Anti-inflammatory medications; Corticosteroid injections; Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT); Surgery (in severe cases)
