Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot. It's often caused by increased pressure on the metatarsal bones, which connect the toes to the rest of the foot.

Pain in the ball of the foot; Pain that worsens when standing, walking, or running; Sharp, aching, or burning pain; Tingling or numbness in toes; Feeling like there's a pebble in your shoe

Causes:

High-impact activities; Foot deformities; Wearing high heels or ill-fitting shoes; Being overweight; Stress fractures; Aging (thinning of fat pad)

Treatments:

Rest and ice; Proper footwear with adequate cushioning; Metatarsal pads; Arch supports; Anti-inflammatory medications; Custom orthotics; Activity modification
